SPL Week 2 Preview: Tampines look to continue perfect start

Mehmedovic will be relishing the challenge against what could be a decimated Home United midfield.
What surprises might coach Saswadimata Dasuki have in store for the Stags?

TAMPINES ROVERS vs HOME UNITED

Tampines look to make it 3 wins on the trot in all competitions as they face an already depleted Home United at Our Tampines Hub on Friday night.

New Serbian signing, Zehrudin Mehmedović, has already scored in his first 2 games and looks a real presence in the midfield. Much like another former Rovers Serbian-born midfielder eh? And with a squad in a clean bill of health, they look to take all 3 points against Home, who cannot say the same.

Song Ui-Young, Taufiq Muqminin, and Fazli Ayob are all out injured, with the latter believed to be out for the rest of the season. Hami Syahin and Arshad Shamim will also be away with the U22's, which leaves coach Saswadimata Dasuki with a real headache in his team selection. With another AFC game on the horizon, do Home have the squad to be able to adequately compete on all fronts?

BALESTIER KHALSA vs HOUGANG UNITED

Hougang United came into this season full of confidence that they might push for the title this season. But they received a 5-star reality check from Tampines and are looking to bounce back.

They face a Balestier side that, while not looking as fantastic as the 4-1 scoreline might suggest, do have Sime Zuzul who might prove to be a signing to be reckoned with. He gave the Young Lions defence a very uncomfortable afternoon with two goals and an assist. But it remains to be seen how he will face up against more astute and experienced defenders.

Hougang have a clean bill of health, only missing Justin Hui due to the U22's Training Camp in Japan. As for Balestier, only Shaqi Sulaiman is out with an injury.

BRUNEI DPMM vs GEYLANG INTERNATIONAL

Geylang are riding high on their win against Albirex, and why not? After a torrid 2018 season, it was fantastic to see the Eagles start off with such a momentous win. But they take on DPMM who, not as crippled by the rules as Albirex are, will look to ground the high flying Eagles.

Geylang will be without Danish Irfan on U22 duties, while Anders Aplin along with Amy Recha are racing against time to be fit for the game. 17-year-old Zikos Chua will be aiming for another start as he is eased into action by coach Noor Ali who definitely sees potential in the youngster.

DPMM will be glad to welcome back their talisman, Azwan Ali Rahman from suspension, and hope that Andrey Varankow can show the home crowd in Brunei what his European pedigree can bring to the side this season. Another goal to add to his first on his debut will definitely endear him to his new side's supporters.
